Hundreds of folks are at a tech conference in Austin, TX called South by Southwest.

New York marketing company Bartle Bogie Hegarty outfitted 12 homeless men, and one woman, with equipment that turns them into walking 4G wireless hotspots.

People who walk by them can get online when their carrier service won’t suffice…it’s like the homeless folks are a bunch of coffee shops with so called free wi-fi.

Customers who use the hotspot would fork over what they can to pay for the service. People are donating about $2 for 15 minutes through PayPal, out of sight of the Hotspot holders themselves.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? Is it degrading or a brilliant idea?
