Hip-Hop was the dominating force in 2012. Out of all the music genres, there weren’t any events like in hip-hop. We had Jay-Z and Kanye West continuing to rule the rap world with their performances at the inaugural Made In America music festival and Rick Ross not slowing down his rise to the top despite having a few seizures along the way. While most of the talk has been about the dominating men, there has been one woman in hip-hop to do just as much, if not more than some of the male heavyweights.

Nicki Minaj has damn near done the impossible. She has remained rooted in hip-hop while crossing over into the pop realm without sacrificing too much of herself. She’s landed a job as a judge on “American Idol” and was still comfortable enough in her skin to drop sexually explicit jewels better than the guys. Take a peek at our list and see for yourself.

5. Madonna ft. Nicki Minaj – “I Don’t Give A…”

When Nicki Minaj got in the studio with Madonna, we imagine the pair had an absolutely brilliant night of using faux British accents and having spots of tea. Out of those sessions also came the self-affirming dance track “I Don’t Give A…” As Madonna comes through giving her ex-husband the business, Young Money‘s resident Barbie follows up with a verse full of brash vanity. She cemented her get-on-my-level ethos with the line, “See I really can’t relate to your Volvo/And you can’t get these shoes at the Aldo/When I let a dude go, that’s his loss/I was cutting them checks, I was his boss!” I’m guessing this has something to do with why Nicki’s ex is mad.

4. B.o.B. ft. Nicki Minaj – “Out Of My Mind”

Atlanta rapper B.o.B. bounded back to the spotlight with his certifiably crazy single “Outta My Mind.” While Bobby Ray raps about going postal, Nicki Minaj proves she’s just as insane, if not more. Minaj’s schizophrenic sixteen bars were filled with all 17 of her personalities. She goes from talking about being a priest and preacher to becoming the classic female superhero She-Ra. B.o.B. and Nicki Minaj’s collaboration proves a little bit of crazy never hurt anybody.

3. Tyga ft. Nicki Minaj – “Muthf**ka Up”

Since entering the game a few years ago, Nicki Minaj has constantly been called bold. Her guest feature on labelmate Tyga‘s album cut “Muthaf**ka Up” is prime example. Name a woman who will get on a song with the man whose woman she rapped about stealing and having sex with on another song? Nicki, that’s who! While she doesn’t make reference to Tyga’s girl Blac Chyna on this track, she does slip on her thug heels and commences to talk that smack we love from New York female rappers. The song was hot before, but Nicki’s verse definitely turned it all the way up.

2. 2 Chainz ft. Nicki Minaj – “I Luv Dem Strippers”

We all know how 2 Chainz gets down when it comes to dancers of the exotic kind. And though we knew Nicki had a soft spot for women, we didn’t know she had her eyes on one woman in particular. Nicki Minaj comes out of the gate talking about she wants to get at famed dancer Blac Chyna (see #3). What makes this verse even bolder than already thought is that Blac Chyna is the mother of Nicki’s friend and labelmate Tyga’s only child. Tyga better take heed and stop telling his friends how good sexy time is with his girl or Nicki is going to swoop in a get her.

1. Lil Wayne ft. Nicki Minaj – “Mercy

How could this verse not be her best of the year?! Nicki steals the show when she mentions she’s going to vote for Mitt Romney because basic females are ruining the economy. Most people were outraged and the Barbie Queen was forced to defend herself against political attacks from fans and haters alike. But when you rap two bars and it causes so much controversy that he president, who you said you weren’t voting for, has to make a comment to defend you, you are an absolutely boss!
