houston robbery suspect chewed out by family

A 16-year-old Houston boy is facing attempted robbery charges after an incident last week. But beyond the impending court date to follow, the teen received an earful from his mother and grandmother while he was detained in the backseat of a Houston Police Department squad car.

Local outlet ABC-13 caught the exchange on tape after the boy’s mother turned her son into the cops for an attempted robbery of a man in a Northeast Houston gas station. The boy’s grandmother was the first to approach the car, giving her grandson and his 15-year-old accomplice the business.

ABC-13 reports:

“What did you do? You did do something. You wouldn’t be in this police car. What did you do?” the grandmother is seen screaming to her grandson.

She was demanding an explanation from her teenage grandson after Houston police say a man reported two suspects tried to rob him at gunpoint near a northeast Houston gas station.

The boy’s mother, who only gave her name as Deandra, said that she “noticed one of the guys” in the report as her son and promptly called the authorities. Deandra and her husband assumed that their son was out with his buddy looking for jobs and not going on a robbery spree.

“People work too hard for their stuff and somebody is going to shoot you,” Deandra said. “I don’t want to see that, I don’t want to see that. I want for the best, and if this is what it takes for him to get help, let him get some help.”

The pair was also suspected of another robbery in the area and may face additional charges.
