Snoop Dogg at the 2015 BET Hip-Hop Awards

Every year, BET brings people together to celebrate the icons of rap music with the BET Hip Hop Awards. Past honorees have included Grandmaster Flash, KRS-One, and Ice Cube.

This year, the network is shining the light on Snoop Dogg with the “I Am Hip Hop” award, celebrating his contributions to the genre and his legacy as one of the pioneers of the West Coast movement.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by BET. The show will be taped at the Cobb Energy Performing Centre near Atlanta and hosted by DJ Khaled. Catch it when it airs on BET on October 4.

From Billboard:

“Snoop Dogg broke through under the guidance of hitmaker Dr. Dre, releasing his 1993 debut album Doggystyle, which featured the songs ‘Gin and Juice’ and ‘What’s My Name?’ He went on to produce a number of hits including ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot,’ ‘Beautiful’ and ‘Sensual Seduction.’”
