There’s nothing like a in-state rivalry between to tough hometown teams and on Wednesday night Indiana State and Butler made the statement true as Indiana State handed No. 16 Butler its first loss of the season.

“Our guys emptied their tanks tonight,” Indiana State coach Greg Lansing said. “We thought we’d have a good chance to beat them if we carried out our game plan.”

From start to finish, the game was intense but what made it a thriller was the fact the game tied, Indiana State’s Brenton Scott hit a free throw with 1.5 seconds left, giving Indiana State a 72-71 win over Butler.

As expected, it was a big moment, fans stormed the court to celebrate the victory, reminding fans why they love college basketball so much, especially in the state of Indiana.

Indiana State record elevates to 5-4, as they prepare to host Western Kentucky on Sunday, while 8-1 Butler will play Cincinnati this Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
