(indystar.com) Shootings at a teen party at the Indiana State Fairgrounds killed a 20-year-old Indianapolis man and wounded an 18-year-old.

Indiana State Police identified the dead man as Shawn Dewanye Campbell. David L. Brooks, Indianapolis, was shot in the shoulder and treated and released at Methodist Hospital.

The homicide was believed to be the first to occur on the fairgrounds, said Andy Klotz, a spokesman for the Indiana State Fair Commission. The fairgrounds opened in 1892.

Indiana State Police spokesman Sgt. Dave Bursten said a talent show was booked for the Farm Bureau Building. It was promoted on Facebook as “The Ice Cold X-Mas Jam,” and a flier indicated it originally was scheduled for the Blue Ribbon Pavilion.

There were about 200 young people at the event, when shortly after midnight, gunfire rang out. Campbell was found lying on the west side of the building.

Possible suspects fled among the partygoers. Three off-duty police offers providing security detained others for questioning.

Details of the Brooks’ shooting were not clear. Police have custody of two vehicles that may be involved.

Anyone with information about the persons responsible for this homicide is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).

WTHR reported the shooting began in an area where workers were checking IDs.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department homicide investigators were assisting the state police, which usually handles crimes at the state-owned facilities.
