Indianapolis recorded its first homicide of 2011 just minutes into the New Year when a man was shot and killed on the Westside.

Indianapolis police were called at 12:40 a.m. Saturday to a report of a “person shot” in the 300 block of West 27th Street, according to a release from IMPD.

The report said preliminary investigation revealed “20-year-old Dominique Corder was seen talking to the occupant of a blue Suburban or pick-up truck” in front of the 27th Street address when he was shot in the stomach.

The vehicle, which appeared to be an early 2000 model with damage to the driver’s door, then fled the scene, the report said.

Corder was transported to Methodist Hospital where police said he died a short time later. No motive for the shooting has been determined.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact IMPD Homicide Branch at (317) 327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.
