Since everyone is Buzzin’ about the Wild Card playoffs with the Indianapolis Colts taking on New York…err…Jersey Jets. Some news from the NFL.

The NFL and cable sports network ESPN have reached an agreement on a media rights deal that will result in a record fee for the league.

“SportsBusiness Daily” reports the deal increases the NFL’s annual rights fee by 40 percent, totaling almost two-billion dollars.  ESPN will get an extension of up to ten years on rights to carry NFL content that includes “Monday Night Football.”  The cable network will maintain key rights that include airing the NFL Draft.  Along with ABC, ESPN will not be in the rotation to air the Super Bowl.

In the initial stages of the agreement with the NFL, ESPN will still not have the rights to televise playoff games.  The league has been hesitant to move those games off broadcast TV, but shows signs it may be willing to depart from that policy.

ESPN’s negotiations with the NFL have been part of a “TV Everywhere” concept that includes broadband and mobile rights.
