WISH-TV reports that an ambulance was stolen from a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant parking lot in New Albany, Ind. Saturday evening. (Not a lot goes on in New Albany so I’m sure this was the highlight of  the evening)

The EMS crew was on a lunch break inside the KFC when the saw Larry Loughman, 43, of Jefferson, Ind. stealing the ambulance.

The New Albany City Police department was called and dispatched. Soon after, an off duty trooper saw the stolen vehicle headed north bound on I-65 in Clark County near the 10 mile marker.

When troopers caught up with the stolen ambulance at the 25 mile marker, the driver refused to stop.

So troopers put out stop sticks at the 39 mile marker. The driver swerved to avoid the sticks and ended up clipping an Indiana State Police car. The driver of the police car fired shots. A few of the bullets appears to have hit the ambulance, according to officials. No one was struck by the bullets.

Although the ambulance was struck with bullets, the driver of the stolen vehicle continued northbound on I-65.

Around mile marker 49, stop sticks were put out again. This time the ambulance driver (Larry) hit them, and continued to drive although the vehicle was slowing.

More sticks were deployed at mile marker 55. The driver (Larry) managed to avoid them.

Finally at mile marker 56, Larry and the ambulance came to a stop.

Officers approached the vehicle. Loughman failed to comply with officer commands and he was tazed (LOL!) and taken to the Larry County Jail.

He is being charged with Auto Theft, D felony because the pursuit took place in Clark, Floyd, Scott and Jackson counties. Charges are pending in all of them.

(Thanks Larry for the fun Saturday night in New Albany! I’m happy no one was hurt.)
