According to CNN, the death toll is still rising from the distructive tornado’s that ripped through several southern states days ago. The total number of reported deaths has reached a saddening 342.

It is tornado season around Indy and the weather all over the world has been pretty unpredictable these days so get with your family and create your own Emergency Disaster Plans. This is vital in helping to kepp your family together and safe. Use some of the tips below to create your own.

Gather information About Possible Hazards/Emergencies/Bad Weather-  Learn your community’s warning system and evacuation plans.

Meet with family to create plan- Discuss the information you have gathered. Pick a couple places outside of your home as point for everyone to meet at. Make one of the places outside of the area of your street/home in cases of massive destruction. Choose an out-of-area family member (out of state, next town, etc)  that everyone agrees to check-in with if you get seperated. Also,  talk with your family about what you would do if told to evacuate your community.

Put That Plan Into Action! Purchase a radio that doesn’t require electricity. Stock up on batteries! Inspect your home for potential hazards and where you would go in your home in cases of bad weather. Pick a day for your family to learn CPR and First Aid information and create emergency disaster kits that include bandages, flash lights, medications, sanitizer, 3-day supply of food that wont spoil, water, etc) and store this in backpacks or easy to move containers in safe places.

Be Prepared. Be Safe.
