Much has been made of Nicki Minaj being dubbed the new “Queen of Hip Hop.” by Rolling Stone. She recently visited MTV’s ‘Funk Flex Full Throttle’ show to talk about how she felt upon hearing the news, and whether or not she accepts the title.
“I was so excited because they’re really respected,” she said. “And then when I went on all the TV shows, they kept on saying, ‘She’s been dubbed the New Queen of Hip-Hop by Rolling Stone magazine,’ so I was like, that happened at the perfect time.”
The Young Money starlet had no idea they would be writing that about her beforehand and felt really humbled.
“I’m honored because obviously I’ve been working hard to get to this place. Whether or not I’m the queen of anything, you know everybody is going to have their own opinions,” she continued. “I don’t do this thinking I’m the queen of this, I’m the queen of that. I just feel like I’m working hard and I just want people to recognize that.”
Next up for Nicki is a tour with Britney Spears. After that she expects to begin working on her sophomore album.
