I’m a connoisseur of great food and drinks. If you are over 21 and you love a good drink there are only a few places I have found in Indianapolis that can make one. Again this blog is my opinion. If you have some knowledge of places for great drinks in Indy please inform me and our fans below in our blog.

Spending my life in broadcasting I have lived many places and had the opportunity to drink and dine with celebrities. To say the least I have been to restaurants, clubs and bars that most have not.

I’m originally from Indianapolis but since moving abroad and experiencing how the other half lives I feel I have a good judge of what’s “good” and “bad”. I’m a critic when it comes to getting the best at the least. No I’m not cheap I just know what I like and I like the best.

So the question is “what is a good drink”. First it starts with a glass, not a plastic cup. The glass must be a high ball that holds more liquor than a mouth wash Dixie cup. There is nothing worse than a short high ball glass piled high with ice and a drop of spirits (Vodka, Whisky, etc.)

Second a good drink is not a heavy pour. A good drink is a combo of mixer (juice, soda, etc.) and alcohol. If you have ever heard of the term “Mixologist” it’s a “Bartender” that has mad skills making amazing drinks that will F you up slowly. If your goal is just to get drunk quickly I suggest a bottle of anything cheap, a straw and stay home.

My first pick for a place with great drinks is Mesh on Mass Ave. They’re first for many reasons. One being that they give you all of the above mentioned. Second there is a lot of room to move around and socialize. They have great atmosphere, food and the service is on point. If you love wine and champagne I suggest going on Sunday’s as they have half price bottles. Nice! You can usually catch me at the bar for brunch on Sundays with a bottle of bubbly after my show on HOT963

My second choice is Sensu 225 South Meridian Street downtown, formerly known as Have a Bad Day Cafe. Thank God that place is gone. Sensu is owned and operated by the folk’s over at MO’s Steakhouse. They know what they are doing! Currently this is THE hottest place in Indianapolis. When you walk in you know your not in Indy anymore. They gutted the inside and it is high end. The drinks are generous, delicious and so is the food. Amazing! The food and drinks are not priced to bad. If you are not going there for dinner it’s five dollars to get in before midnight. If you do go for dinner beware the dishes are made to share. They have a little bit of everything for everyone. Tuesdays they have bottle service for just a hundred dollars. Perfect if you want to party with 3 or four of your friends. I know on the weekends they also have valet parking which is nice for downtown. It’s not over priced either.

My third choice is The Ball and The Biscuit. It’s located on 331 Mass Ave next to Bazbeaux Pizza. I love this place because it’s all about great drink, music, atmosphere and service. They have the most unique spot in the city. If your just a beer drinker they have you covered with a great selection of micro beer, domestic and imports as well as the most unique cocktails in the city. Delicious! If your hungry they have a small but nice tapas menu. By the way the inspiration for the name “The Ball and Biscuit” was the STC 4021, a microphone first made in the 1930’s by Standard Telephones and Cables Limited, a British subsidiary of Western Electric. Because of its unusual shape (and seemingly uninspiring name), the STC 4021 was dubbed “The Ball and Biscuit” by industry insiders. So for me it’s a very special place since it has a broadcasting theme. Everything about this place is eclectic. The reason it’s 3rd on my list is it gets very busy on the weekends and there is not tons of room to move around. Sometimes it’s hard to get a drink at those times. Also you pay for what you get. Quality drinks made fresh with no preservatives. I mentioned “Mixologist” earlier. That what those guys are. The real deal!

Fourth on my list is The Rathskeller at 401 E. Michigan Street located inside the Athenaeum Building. I think most everyone in Indy has been there. If not it’s on my list for tons of reasons. They have several bars. Great drinks. Incredible beer selection. I would say if your a beer drinker this would be my first stop. The draft beer is a generous poor and the glasses and cups are big. Not a fan of plastic cups but not a lot you can do with that since they have a huge patio with live music most nights. It’s a very popular hangout and very busy. Lots of room to move and the staff is friendly.

Number five is The Brass Ring Lounge located at 1245 South Shelby Street in Fountain Square. I have only been to this place once and I really liked it. I thought the drinks were good. The atmosphere was nice and the bar food was a step above the norm. I can’t say a lot because I am a newbie but I will be back. Check em out!
