It’s starting to look as if M.I.A.’s flippin’ of the bird has caused more noise than Madonna’s overall set. Has she fled the country due to all the controvery?
A source has told TMZ is reporting that M.I.A. will end up paying any fines imposed on NBC as a result of her finger wag during the Super Bowl halftime show. The source says the NFL has indemnified NBC … because the NFL is responsible for the halftime content. But the NFL was smart, given the history of performers who wanted to do something shocking to get attention during the biggest TV event of the year. M.I.A. signed a contract with the NFL for the halftime performance, and in that contract M.I.A. agreed to indemnify the NFL for any money it might be forced to pay if the FCC comes down on the Peacock Network.
The whole “flippin’ of the bird” may have been just a bit too much for the International Star. The New York Daily News reports that M.I.A. has left the Big Apple to spend time away from the Super Bowl scandal in her hometown of London. It is also being reported she has seperated from her fiance Benjamin Bronfman.
A source told the website that M.I.A. sometimes goes six weeks without seeing” Ikhyd and appears to be living a separate life from Benjamin, who was also reportedly seen on a date with a mystery woman last week.
