It seems that no matter what happens in hip-hop we can not escape the word “Beef”. However the lines seem to be very grey nowadays. Back in the 90’s and even early 2000’s when a rapper had an issue with another rapper it was very easy to tell and the music reflected how serious and direct the “Beef” was. The latest person being accused of “Sneak Dissing” has been rapper Common from South Side Chicago. His new song “Sweet” from his album “The Dreamer, The Believer” shows him ready for lyrical warfare against any rapper that’s soft and singing.

Now…People want to take this a step further and say he’s talking about Drake. I don’t know if its a popularity thing or what but Drake is definitely not the only rapper that sings.

Drake made a remark saying “If anyone has a problem with me say it to my face”..Strong words from someone who wasn’t addressed Directly.

Commons response was “If the cap fits..wear it” “If Drake wants a hip-hop battle I’m all for it..just keep it hip-hop”

Now I don’t believe this song is about Drake for one simple reason. Common has NO PROBLEM CALLING OUT NAMES! Taking another trip back in time when Common Sense with head to head with West Coast Legend Ice Cube over his song “I Use To Love H.E.R”. Cube felt he disrespected the West and sent a shot Common’s way..Common…fired directly back! So I don’t see how now Common being a grown man would shoot a sublime at a up and comers vicinity.

The following songs contain explicit lyrics. Listener Discretion is advised

Westside Slaughterhouse

Common -B In Yoo

Now does sound like someone who would shoot a subliminal over a decade later?

So what is a diss now? Can you make a generalization and it be taken to another level now and that qualifies? Is it up to fans to build battles for emcee’s to fight for the sake of entertainment? Guess only time will tell. I think Drake should fall back…unless he is trying to show how hard he can be for his fans, which I don’t think by any means is a smart thing for him to do.
