Gospel music always gets a bad rap in the hip-hop community.

Many don’t see how the two can coexist on the same iPod. Gospel hip-hop artist Trip Lee is here to change your perspective. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Trip is a regular guy with an extraordinary talent for rhyming. Those are my words, when you ask him about his talent he will tell you that it’s a God given talent. For a rapper who won gospel’s equivalent to a Grammy for his last album, Trip Lee is rather humble. He’ll gladly talk to you about his favorite John Mayer album, how Jay-Z influenced his rhymes, and God with the same amount of passion.

Trip Lee stopped by The Urban Daily offices to introduce himself and his latest album entitled The Good Life, which is out now. While he was here, he and I spoke about how hard it is for him to get hip-hop heads to listen to his music because he’s a gospel rapper and his thoughts on what the true definition of church is. Don’t forget to check out his single, “I’m Good.” which features fellow rapper Lecrae. Check out our conversation below.
