Did you know Eminem landed a role in a DreamWorks backed film Southpaw back in 2010? No? You’re not alone. However, reports have surfaced Eminem won’t be in the film because he wants to concentrate on his music career.
Southpaw is a gutsy drama about a washed up boxer trying to fix his personal life as he mounts a return to the ring. Eminem’s publicist Dennis Dennehy released a statement saying, “He’s focusing on his music right now, so while he’s doing that, while he’s in that space, he wanted to put this on hold for the time being,” Dennehy stated. “What I’m told is when the film does get made, the plan is that the bulk of it will be shot in Michigan. That was always the understanding.”
Southpaw has been plagued with problems since it was acquired by DreamWorks. At one point, MGM Studios was supposed to fund the film and it was to be distributed by Sony Pictures. Training Day director Antoine Fuqua was slated to helm the project. Now that Eminem has shifted his focus back to music, who knows when this film will get made.
Would you go see Eminem play a boxer? Do you think he would be able to pull it off?
