Slower-than-hoped sales have closed a long-time restaurant at the Indianapolis International Airport.

TGI Friday’s is one of several airport concessionaires struggling, said a statement from the Indianapolis Airport Authority.

The restaurant opened in the former terminal from 1999 to 2007, and then reopened in 2008 in the new terminal. Its sales dropped from $2.3 million in 2007 compared to $1.3 million in 2009, their first full year in the new terminal, the statement said.

The restaurant was in Concourse A, which has suffered a declining passenger volume. The decision to close came as M&S Enterprises and TGI Friday’s terminated their operating agreement, the statement said.

The airport authority had suspended a specific fee to restaurants and retailers in the last five months of 2009 to provide a type of rent relief. The measure provided a potential savings of about $750,000 to 12 concessionaires, the statement said.

The restaurant closed Feb. 26.
