Brooklyn MC Talib Kweli is known for his cutting words when he is passionate about an issue. He is turning his attentions to New York City’s controversial police practice known as Stop-And-Frisk.

Earlier today, Kweli made an appearance at City Hall where he blasted the invasive policy where police frisk random citizens if they appear suspicious. During his speech at City Hall, Talib Kweli said, “In a fair and equal world, stop-and-frisk might make sense. But we don’t live in a fair and equal world. We live in a world where not everyone starts at the same place. We live in a world that was built on the backs of slaves, some of them are still buried right here under City Hall.”

The “Get By” wordsmith then took aim at New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg’s stance on the issue. Bloomberg has constantly defended the policy by reasoning police only stop people if the police are highly suspicious. Kweli responded to Mayor Bloomberg’s position, “I heard that man say that no one should ever be racially profiled. What world does that man live in? I don’t know, I don’t live in that world. You can’t stop racism with laws. You can’t legislate compassion. We will not allow you to support policies that encourage racism.  We will not allow you to support policies that encourage racism. We will not stand for it. We will not stand to the side, we won’t have it.”

We tend to side with Talib Kweli since NYPD has had a long history of a terrible relationship with the black community long before mayor Bloomberg took office. What do you guys think about Talib Kweli’s comments? How is the relationship between the police and community in your area? Speak your mind below.
