MiguelBBCThe Kaleidoscope Dream singer-producer stirred up the pot on Monday (May 27) when he wrote a series of tweets revolving around the sentiment that black people are inherently judgmental. The messages were inspired by negative comments fans left on Miguel’s Instagram after he shared a photo of himself wearing a T-shirt displaying a bone hand rocking devil horns.

In a interview with BBC 1Xtra’s Charlie Sloth, Miguel calmly and intelligently diffuses the situation with that handy tool called context; then adds, “If anyone out there doesn’t like me for that, I can respect that but you can always know that I’ll be the artist and the man who will stand by his opinion“; and finally whips up a freestyle.

In the original tweets, Miguel wrote, “Im proud of my heritage but honestly, black people are the most judgmental people in the world. Shits sad man … we’ve been conditioned, pre-programmed to hate ourselves … that’s why I appreciate those who choose to think and act for themselves regardless of ethnicity or culture … the problem can not be fixed until the problem is recognized. Not everyone is the same thank goodness. And obviously, I love all my fans … Of course EVERYONE is judgemental.
