Will Smith’s son, Jaden, is getting recognition for his acting work. 

The “Hollywood Reporter” reports that the 12-year-old son of Hollywood couple Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith will be honored with the ShoWest Breakthrough Male Star Of the Year Award this Wednesday in Las Vegas. 

Smith is being honored for his performance in the upcoming film, “The Karate Kid,” which co-stars Jackie Chan. 

 

The movie is due out on June 11th.  ShoWest managing director Robert Sunshine raves about Smith’s upcoming performance.  He says, quote, “Jaden Smith is an exceptional young actor who has delivered a true breakout performance with his portrayal of ‘Dre Parker’ in ‘The Karate Kid.'”  The ShoWest convention is taking place through Thursday at the Bally’s & Paris Hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This is not Jaden Smith’s first acting role.  Audiences got their first taste of his acting abilities when he co-starred alongside his father in “The Pursuit of Happyness.”  Jaden has also appeared opposite Keanu Reeves in “The Day The Earth Stood Still.”
