jay-z-99fde2ccbc2e6c24According to the New York Post, Jay-Z has received permission from the City of New York allowing him to perform on top of the marquee at the Ed Sullivan theater in Midtown Manhattan.

Hov was apparently planning to make the performance a surprise…until it wasn’t.

The July 8 performance will be a part of the unprecedented roll-out for Jay-Z’s new album Magna Carta Holy Grail.

If he gets permission from the mayor’s office, it’s going to be off the hook,” a law enforcement official told the Post earlier in the week. “They’ll have to shut down Broadway around the Letterman building. They’ll have to have a strong police presence. It’s going to be chaos with so many fans.

Three years ago Jay and Eminem attempted a similar stunt and couldn’t obtain the proper permits, but they still performed on the roof of the “Late Show with David Letterman” building.
