mayweather de la hoya

Floyd Mayweather is out doing damage control.

This after, he says, someone hacked into his Instagram account and said some unsavory things about Oscar De La Hoya, who was the promoter of his and boxing’s biggest payday ever ($41.5 million purse) for Saturday’s fight with “Canelo” Alvarez, which he won overwhelmingly.

It’s a good thing Mayweather is reaching out and setting the record straight, because otherwise, whether someone hacked his account or not, he looks like an insensitive, disrespectful a**hole. And that’s putting it mildly.

The photo showed a sad sorta looking De la Hoya with the caption “Meanwhile In Rehab” at the top and “Oscar: I gave Canelo the wrong blueprint I was high” at the bottom.

Here’s Mayweather’s statement:

It’s unfortunate that a stupid picture was posted to my Instagram account earlier today that was not posted by me or authorized by me to post.

As I clearly stated during my fight week and again in the post-fight press conference, I completely support Oscar De La Hoya and his family during this difficult time in his life.  Although we have had our differences in the past, I stand by him unconditionally and would never personally disrespect him or anyone else who struggles with addiction.

I apologize to Oscar and his family for this posting.  I wish him well and am rooting for him to win his fight too. I also apologize to all of my followers for this ridiculous post. I have no ill-will towards anyone and have repeatedly stated that I only seek positivity in my life and for others.

If what Mayweather says is true about the hacking, he’s got some serious enemies lurking about. He might want to do some reaccessing about who is in his life or who his haters are because whoever they are, they’re coming hard.
