A recent life-threatening diagnosis isn’t keeping a Georgia couple from pursuing wedding plans they began making some five months ago.
Fox 5 News Atlanta reports that when Donald Wiles asked Chrystal Lurry (both pictured) to be his bride, he didn’t know that he had Lou Gehrig’s Disease–that diagnosis came one month after the two got engage. They sought medical advice after Donald began struggling to pick up their infant son.
Wile’s health is deteriorating fast, so Lurry knows their wedding will have a far more powerful meaning than most.
“When you take your vows it’s supposed to be ‘happily ever after,’ but I know that we’re doing it to create a memory,” she said.
The couple’s story has gained traction on social media, according to Fox 5.
“Girls always dream of having their big day and finally my big day gets here and then we’re stuck with this. I want it to be something that we can remember together,” Lurry said.
Lurry’s a 911 operator in Clayton County, so she’s used to medical emergencies. But, faced with the possibility of a future without her groom-to-be, she is forced to look at life from a new perspective.
“Live your life because you just don’t know when it’s going to end,” Lurry said. “We got hit with this and it’s made me look at things differently. “
The couple isn’t sure when they’ll tie the not, but Lurry is hoping her future husband can do one thing when they do.
“I can do anything as long as we can make it down the aisle together and he’s still able to put the ring on my finger,” Lurry said.
