Rick Ross vs LMFAO

With rappers being sued left and right for sample clearance issues and adopted monikers, it’s a change to see one taking someone else to court. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rapper Rick Ross is suing disbanded group LMFAO for unauthorized use of his hit record “Hustlin” in their 2010 smash “Party Rock Anthem.”

In dispute is the use of the phrase “Everyday I’m shufflin’” which Ross’s filing insists sounds too much like “Everyday I’m Hustlin” from his 2006 debut hit.

“The phrase is so important to the success of ‘Party Rock Anthem,’ that LMFAO launched a highly successful clothing line, Party Rock Clothing, that features the phrase on T-shirts and other clothing items,” says the lawsuit. ‘Party Rock Anthem’ sold 7.5 million copies and has also has been licensed for numerous films, television programs, video games, advertisements for airlines and more.

Ross is now seeking an injunction and maximum statutory damages. He has momentum on his side as he just won the right to keep his stage name from former drug dealer Freeway Rick Ross.
