It was only a week ago that Esquire Magazine pegged Gary Clark, Jr. the next Rock God, and tonight the 29-year-old Grammy winning guitarist was put to the test as he performed The National Anthem at the 2014 NBA All-Star Game. The guitar rendition was slightly reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock, and something very new to the All-Star crowd who are used to the song being performed by powerhouse voices. Although Gary has an amazing voice, he chose to do an entirely instrumental version.

Also: If you enjoyed Gary Clark, Jr. bringing something different to the “Star-Spangled Banner,” let’s also rewind back to over 30 years ago, when Marvin Gaye performed the song, and let’s just say his spin on it was very —unique.
