Rashia joins Urban Souls Dance Company to help support its charitable vision
Indianapolis native, Rashia Whitlock will be joining a group of local celebrities from the Houston area to compete for the title of best dancer, and fundraiser in the Dancing with the Houston Stars Charity event on May 4, 2014. The event, taking place at the Hess Club in Houston Texas, will support the Urban Souls Dance Company and its philanthropic efforts in the Houston Community.
The 10 celebrities will raise money for the cause through online donations and ticket sales. They will then take to the stage and face off in a dance competition. They will each have a partner, who is a professional dancer from the Urban Souls Dance Company. Winners will be chosen based on overall performance as well as collected donations.
This event is even going to be streamed live. Supporters will be able to watch the competition and vote for their favorite dancer via text message. For those who purchase tickets to watch the show live at the Hess Club, they will be able to purchase “stars” to help increase their favorite dancer’s points. May 4th is sure to be a elegantly breath taking event, with lots of lights, cameras and plenty of action.
Guy Harrison founded the Urban Souls Dance Company (USDC). USDC was conceptualized while Mr. Harrison was training in New York at the Alvin Ailey School. In 2005, Mr. Harrison decided to start USDC in hopes of creating a dancing school environment like the one at Alvin Ailey.
Since its inception, USDC has received multiple awards and been recognized for its pieces being socially conscious and beautifully choreographed. In 2006, USDC presented a performance called “Scarlet Situation” which was praised for being a piece that opened the eyes of many to the issue of HIV/AIDS in the African American community.
