sizzurp-coughSizzurp-addicted rappers are going to have to find a new drug of choice because one of their favorites has been taken off the market for purchase.

Due to it’s growing reputation as a popular drug whose abuse is commonplace, the maker of the product, Actavis, removed the cough syrup from the market. A representative for the company released a statement explaining the voluntary discontinuing of the illegally used medicine.

Given [recent media attention], Actavis has made the bold and unprecedented decision to cease all production and sales of its Promethazine Codeine product. This attention has glamorized the unlawful and dangerous use of the product, which is contrary to its approved indication,” the rep said.

When the cough syrup was in production, the street value of a pint hovered around eight hundred dollars. Now that the product has stopped being made, sources are saying rappers are offering their dealers astronomical amounts of money to get as much cough syrup as they can before the street supply really dries up.

Troubled rapper Souljah Boy needs not worry about his supply of cough syrup running out any time soon. The twenty-something rapper posted a photo on his Instagram page on Monday that showed he was in possession of six bottles of cough syrup. The caption to the photo read, “Soulja got the juice. They say the streets dry. I say you gotta be kiddin me. I serve everybody.”
