Mother charged with beating death of 1-year-old daughter
A 1-year-old baby is beaten to death and her mother is charged with murder. Just 19 years old, Sierra Tankersly is facing murder charges after her 1-year-old daughter Malayh was found dead in her apartment Sunday morning.
Police say the infant died of multiple blunt force trauma to the head. Tankersly has another daughter, a 2-year-old, who police say has been taken from the home. While she is in jail tonight, Tankersly’s sister, Christina Robinson, is speaking out in her defense.
Robinson says Tankersly tried to wake her daughter up that morning and called 911 in a panic. Her sister says Tankersly was the only one home at the Detroit apartment when the child was found unresponsive – but Robinson says that doesn’t make the mom a murderer. Robinson says the 1-year old was born premature and there were others in the apartment with her on Saturday night who need to be questioned by police.
Fox 2 spoke with one neighbor who says hearing people fight and even seeing violence is not uncommon. Brockington says she’s only lived in the apartment complex a couple months but given the violence she’s seen around her, she’ll be looking for a new home as soon as possible.
Woman found fatally shot on Detroit’s west side
Police are investigating after a woman was found shot to death at a home in the 10500 block of West Outer Drive Thursday around 7:45 p.m. The woman, identified by family members as 32-year-old Tiffany Monique Couch, is believed to have been found in the basement of the home. A neighbor told Local 4 she heard a smash, scream and then a gunshot sometime Thursday afternoon. While the neighbor said she didn’t know the victim well, she said her kids played with Couch’s two young children.

Police find suspect in apparent abduction attempt of girl, 10
A young girl was nearly abducted on a routine walk home in front of a St. Clair Shores elementary school. The 10-year-old girl was lifted by her arms during the attempt which occurred at 3:15 p.m. outside Elmwood Elementary. The girl was able to get out of the man’s grasp and run. Following up leads, police identified the suspect as a 27-year-old mentally impaired man who they say was at the school with his mother to pick-up her other children.
Investigators still don’t know why the man grabbed the little girl. He was brought in for questioning and released to his mother. Police returned to school Thursday morning to make sure the students arrived without a problem. Neighbors were especially surprised to hear the time of day when the attempted abduction happened. At that point of the afternoon, the side street is lined with cars and parents waiting to pick up their kids.
Fox 2 is told the investigation continues and police plan to turn over their findings.
New car donated to domestic abuse victim whose vehicle was set on fire
A Wayne State University student who says she was domestically abused had her car set on fire Sunday. Renee Brown believes it was no accident and she fears for her life.
Moved by what they saw, brothers Abe and Al Saad wanted to help and had a special surprise for Brown, 20. The Saads donated a 2004 Grand Prix sedan to replace the car for her, free of charge. A glowing smile from the Detroit woman is what the Saads wanted to see Thursday.
The Saads saw Brown’s story of abuse from her ex-boyfriend, hiding her face and still in fear. Filing a personal protection order with police, Brown says that on Sunday she walked out of her house to see the car up in flames. She had purchased it from Ford Road Motor Sales in Dearborn last year, with all the money she had. Abe and Al Saad managers at Ford Road Motor Sales, say they had to act.
The Grand Prix is worth about $5,000, which the Saads say is the least they could do. Walking with her father, laughing and smiling, Brown got her first glimpse of her new car. Although still in fear of her ex-boyfriend, Brown and her father say this is much more than surprise gift. Before driving away, there were more hugs and a message to anyone going through what Renee has endured.
