Bill Cosby can no longer ignore the backlash he’s suffered from resurrected rape allegations, so he’s having one of his reps handle it.
The “Cosby Show” star had arguably been America’s favorite dad until Hannibal Buress reminded an audience in Philadelphia that the comedian has been accused of sexual assault a number of times. Since then, the Internet has continued to drag him.
When an attempt to defuse the situation took a sharp left earlier this month, Bill and his camp could no longer joke their way out of accountability. Bill had the opportunity to speak on the allegations during a recent interview with NPR, but he kept his mouth shut and shook his head when the subject came up.
Now Cosby’s lawyer, John P. Schmitt has issued a statement on the accusations: “Over the last several weeks, decade-old, discredited allegations against Mr. Cosby have resurfaced. The fact that they are being repeated does not make them true. Mr. Cosby does not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment.”
Schmidt also added: “He would like to thank all his fans for the outpouring of support and assure them that, at age 77, he is doing his best work.”
And just to put a period on the end of this statement, Schmitt announced that this would be the only comment on the allegations coming from Cosby and his representatives.
This statement comes just a day after it was announced that Cosby’s upcoming appearance on “Late Night with David Letterman” had been canceled. His camp didn’t comment on why he was no longer going to do the show, but many assume that it has something to do with the fact that he doesn’t want to speak on the rape claims.
