The protest partially shut down the mall for two hours this weekend. The group chose it for its widespread popularity, especially during the holidays; however, officials and law enforcement warned them that the private property was off limits.

The mall reportedly lost a considerable amount of revenue from the shutdown. Officers were forced to close 80 stores and multiple mall entrances as soon as the crowd chanting began.

Bloomington City lawyer Sandra Johnson is currently building her criminal case. She is trying to acquire restitution for the mall, city and overtime for police officers who responded.

“Who led that march through the Mall of America?” asked Johnson. “If we can identify those people who were inciting others to continue with this illegal activity, we can consider charges against them too.”

Bloomington City officers are scanning the group’s social media account to find its organizers.

Lena K. Gardner from “Black Lives Matter” claimed multiple groups participated in the protest. She also denied that protestors cost the mall.

“We came to sing carols and raise awareness, and the Bloomington police are the ones who shut down the mall, not us,” she said.

No reports of injuries or property damages came from the demonstration.
