During a congressional hearing about Obamacare on Monday, Florida Democrat Rep. Alcee Hastings took a swipe at the conservatives in Texas for among other things refusing to participate in state health care exchanges.

And then he went in, calling it a “crazy state.” To prove his point, he cited an old law that of all things restricted dildos.

“One of their cities has a law that says that women can only have six dildos, and the certain size of things,” Hastings told CNN. “And if that ain’t crazy I don’t know what is.”

He was referring to a Texas law that restricted the sale of sex toys before it was struck down in 2008, according to the Huffington Post. Texas’ Republican Governor Greg Abbott, who was the state’s attorney general at the time, actually went to court in an attempt to uphold the dildo ban, HuffPo writes, citing a report at Lone Star Q:

The law in question includes, “A person who possesses six or more obscene devices or identical or similar obscene articles is presumed to possess them with intent to promote the same.”

The name calling began when Hastings called Texas a “crazy state” during a committee hearing on the Affordable Care Act on Monday, causing Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas), to demand an apology, HuffPo notes.

The comment also sparked a hilarious segment on The Daily Show, which pit Florida and Texas against one another.

“You’re from Florida, and you’re calling Texas crazy?” host Jon Stewart said on Wednesday’s show. “You may as well call out Oklahoma for also having a panhandle.”
