Former New York Jets running back Chris Johnson is reportedly recovering in a Florida hospital after a drive-by shooting left two passengers in his vehicle injured and killed a third passenger. The Orlando Sentinel reports Johnson’s vehicle was targeted at 4:09 am in Orlando. More from The Sentinel:

“Deputies responded to a shooting call and arrived to find a Jeep the driver dead inside and two other men with gunshot wounds on the sidewalk. The victims, Reggie Johnson and Chris Johnson, both 29, said that an unknown vehicle pulled up beside them at the red light and opened fire into the Jeep, deputies said. The deceased driver was identified as Dreekins Oriko Johnson, 28.”

There are varying reports on if Johnson was shot as well. CBS, ESPN, and TMZ are reporting Johnson sustained a shot to his arm, while reports from The Sentinel state the Orange County Sheriff’s Office would not confirm the reports.

In April of 2014, Johnson signed a two-year contract with the Jets for $8 million. Johnson was only the sixth NFL player to rush for 2,000 yards, as he recorded 2,006 rushing yards during the 2009 season with the Tennessee Titans. On February 15, 2015, the Jets announced they would not renew Johnson’s second year contract option.
