Taraji P. Henson apologized via Instagram on Friday for claiming her son was racailly profiled by Glendale, California, police after a video of the 20-year-old being stopped emerged, reports Buzzfeed.

In recent weeks, Henson made news after an Uptown magazine cover story reported that her son was racially profiled by officers on the University of Southern California campus as well as by Glendale police, who she claimed illegally searched his car. For those reasons, the ‘Empire’ actress said she was sending him to historically Black college Howard University in Washington, D.C.

However, the recently released video from Glendale PD shows otherwise.

Reports Buzzfeed:

The video, obtained by the Los Angeles Times, showed Marcel Henson driving through a lighted crosswalk as a person crosses, prompting the officer to initiate the traffic stop.

During the Oct. 18, 2014, incident, the officer can be heard asking Marcel if he has anything illegal in the car. Marcel responds, telling the officer there is marijuana inside his backpack, which he claims he has a medical marijuana license to use, but cannot find.

“I appreciate you being honest with me about the weed,” the officer says. “I do appreciate that because I do smell weed, so thank you for being honest about that.”

The officer then asks Marcel to exit the vehicle, where the 20-year-old tells the officer he also has Ritalin, a prescription medication used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), in the car. Marcel also admitted he did not have a prescription for the stimulant, commonly used and abused by college students.

The young man was then cited for possession of marijuana, rather than the original moving violation, which would have “had him go to traffic school,” said the very polite officer. “All I am going to do is take the weed from you,” the cop is heard saying on the video.

Henson, who may not have gotten “all” the story from her son, was gracious enough to apologize via Instagram on Friday saying: “I would like to publically apologize to the officer and the Glendale Police Department. A mother’s job is not easy and neither is a police officer’s. Sometimes WE as humans over react without gathering all of the facts. As a mother in this case, I over reacted and for that I apologize. Thank you to that officer for being kind to my son. Love, Taraji P. Henson.”
