In a Billboard interview that found her admitting she should probably “tone it down,” Azealia Banks failed to do so and found herself issuing the rare mea culpa. When discussing what attracts her, the Harlem rapper referenced the President with the following:

“He’s so fine. Those big-a** white teeth and ears hanging off his head? I’m like, ‘Oh my god, I want to f— the president.’”

Media outlets ranging from Hip-Hop blogs to Fox News quickly hopped on the quote, and Banks displayed a mix of dismay and regret after her statements quickly went viral.

“OK, no the part about the President was not supposed to be in there. I really wish I could take it back. OMG I was only joking,” she tweeted. Banks added that something clicks in her head and makes her say “crazy things,” and said sex was the least interesting thing she talks about.

Unlike previous Twitter exchanges with Perez Hilton, Erykah Badu, and Iggy Azealea, the Obama quotes don’t seem to have taken on a life of their own yet. To Banks’ point about the importance of other issues, she also discussed Ta-Nehisi Coates’ article on reparations in Atlantic magazine and the communal reactions to Pharrell Williams and Kendrick Lamar’s quotes on Michael Brown’s killing.
