PARTYNEXTDOOR is one of the most private and mysterious artists in the game right now, doing very limited amounts of shows for fans, and not sharing too much of his story.

It looks like that’s all changing, as the OVO signee has just done his first interview with FADER Magazine, where he addresses a slew of topics.

From speaking on where his name came from and submitting songs to Justin Bieber just before he pitched himself to Jimmy Iovine as a solo artist, to signing with Drake‘s OVO label, not much was left off the table for what fans have been wanting to know.

One of the highlights from the interview had to be PARTYNEXTDOOR’s addressing comparisons to The Weeknd, which he responded:

“People throw that [Weeknd comparison] over me because I came at a time where people assumed I was there to fill a void,” he says, alluding to The Weeknd’s departure from the OVO fold in 2012. “A lot of things that came out of Toronto were darker at the time. But me? I’m all about colors. I’ll flip samples where one’s a completely dark song and the next one is a complete sexual song. People think my whole thing is a dark thing, but I don’t.”
