Budweiser is receiving a ton of backlash from consumers. after printing a marketing slogan on its bottles that was believed to endorse rape.
According to Bloomberg Business, the beer company has issued an apology in an email statement, saying that the company would never condone irresponsible or disrespectful behavior.
The original slogan on the bottle read, “The perfect beer for removing ‘no’ from your vocabulary,” as part of Budweiser’s ‘Up For Whatever’ campaign.
Alexander Lambrecht, vice president of Anheuser-Busch’s Bud Light division responded in a statement reading:
“The Bud Light Up for Whatever campaign, now in its second year, has inspired millions of consumers to engage with our brand in a positive and light-hearted way,” he said in an e-mailed statement. “In this spirit, we created more than 140 different scroll messages intended to encourage spontaneous fun. It’s clear that this message missed the mark, and we regret it.”
This slogan and backlash comes after the same campaign was criticized on St. Patrick’s Day, when the company promoted drinkers to pinch people who were not “#UpForWhatever” in a controversial tweet.
