What has zero calories, but can make you fat (well at least feel fat)? Salt. The number one culprit of bloating and retaining water weight. As we spring into another skin-baring season, I thought I would ditch salt for a bit. That’s right, many believe throwing salt over your shoulder is good for luck, but truth be told, throwing it out is great for your health.

Cooking with salt and pepper only is so 1940s, beauties so check out the fun I have been having with herbs. And no I don’t have a garden in NYC, in fact I have a garden in my kitchen cupboards thanks to Litehouse!

These are Instantly Fresh™ Herbs. They aren’t dried herbs, they’re fresh! Well, they are freeze-dried fresh herbs. Which means, with a drop of water, they come back to life – with all the flavor, nutrients and even the original shape! There is just one simple ingredient – the herb. No additives. No funky stuff to make it last longer on your shelf. They literally last for years, so no more buying a bundle of basil for a recipe that only requires a tablespoon and having to throw the withering basil out.

There are over a dozen options and I recently made a complete meal–five fun full courses–using a few of them. So kiss salt goodbye and try these RAD salt-free options.

1. Strawberry White Wine Spritzer

1 Tablespoon Litehouse Instantly Fresh Mint

5 ounces white wine

3-4 frozen strawberries

2 ounces seltzer water

Load your favorite wine glass in the order listed and enjoy this guiltless sipper.

Mix together the first five ingredients and spread evenly across the salmon. Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes. Serve with lemon slices for added freshness.

4. Cilantro Lime Brown Rice

A simple side I just couldn’t hide. Enjoy beauties!

1 Tablespoon Litehouse Instantly Fresh Cilantro

Combine the lime juice and Litehouse Instantly Fresh Cilantro first and then stir this mixture into your already cooked brown rice. Simple right?
