After it was announced Tuesday that an officer would not be charged in the shooting death of her unarmed son, the mother of Tony Robinson vowed to sue the police department, according to The Huffington Post.

Andrea Irwin told CNN host Anderson Cooper that she “absolutely” planned to sue the Madison Police Department after he raised the question during an interview Tuesday evening.

Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne announced Tuesday that he would not charge Madison Officer Matt Kenny in Robinson’s death because the officer used lawful deadly force when he was allegedly struck by the teen while responding to a call. The decision prompted peaceful protests in Madison over police violence against Blacks.

Just hours after the announcement, officials released dash cam video of the fatal encounter on March 6, according to The Telegraph. Police responded to a 911 call about a man running through vehicle traffic, prompting Robinson to flee inside his home before officers arrived at the scene.

The dash cam video shows the officer knocking on the door, entering the home and muffled sounds on the police radio. Suddenly shots are fired inside the house and the officer, not apparently injured, continues firing as he backs out of the doorway. Seconds later, just Robinson’s lower legs can be seen on the ground of the front door.

Robinson’s family has hired a Chicago law firm to conduct its own investigation into the shooting and ordered an independent autopsy, reports say.
