After months full of turmoil surrounding the issue of police brutality in Baltimore, MD, the metropolis has now been named one of the most “Playful Cities” in America.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake made the announcement via Twitter Wednesday afternoon. For the third time, the city has owned the title given by the Humana Foundation’s Kaboom! initiative.

The non-profit honored over 200 cities in the country that continuously provide active play and programs for children living in poverty. Other cities highlighted include Chicago, Washington D.C., New York City, Atlanta, and Miami Beach.

In addition to Baltimore’s goal of encouraging play for children, community centers around the city extended their hours to create a safe haven for children during the protests that arose after 25-year-old Freddie Gray died in police custody.

More peaceful events followed the protests in April, including a block party where children were able to play at the local basketball courts and engage with music, food, and an all-around sense of community.

Freddie Gray’s family was also given better news this summer, when Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby announced that all six officers involved in his arrest and subsequent death would be indicted.
