DeAndre Jordan was set to leave his Los Angeles Clippers behind for a new beginning with the Dallas Mavericks. But that could all change now, and the battle could be won with emojis.
In an 11th hours Hail Mary to keep their big man, the Clippers are practically sending their entire team to Jordan’s Houston home to change his mind. But the Mavericks are invested in making him keep his word, and are sending their own contingent to stop this. What is usually a quiet battle became an all out war though, and the weapon of choice to show the big man who wants him most? Emojis.
Chandler Parsons, who some say played a big role in wooing him away, fired this first shot on Twitter:
The Clippers were ready for this. JJ Redick, who lives near Jordan, was quickly mobilized by the team:
But they needed more firepower. So Blake Griffin, who was on vacation in Kauai and is good friends with Jordan, was sent to the battlefield:
And what about Chris Paul, who some suspect is the big reason Jordan left due to tensions between the two? He wants to make things right, and sent out the epic emoji combo of a banana boat from his vacation with LeBron James and Dwayne Wade to show that he is on the move:
Oh, but you thought it ends there? Paul Pierce, who will be reuniting with Doc Rivers in L.A. this fall, went AOL on everyone:
Even Mike Woodson, former Knicks coach and assistant staffer to Doc Rivers, is making a sneak attack from the sea:
But new Clippers teammate Lance Stephenson did not get the memo, and kind of ruined the fun:
Will Jordan stick to his four year, $80 million decision to help the Mavs rebuild? Or will he stick to the only team he has known and will give him a better shot at a championship for $100 million over five years? Free agents can officially sign their contracts tomorrow, so everyone will be left in emoji suspense for the next 24 hours.
