Roland Martin spoke with Justice League NYC activists Tamika Mallory, Linda Sarsour, and Carmen Perez about Minister Louis Farrakhan’s address during Justice or Else and the next steps following the historic rally.
Though the event is over, Mallory said, “The work ahead is going to be more significant than what we did today.”
“We often get caught up in event planning, but we’re talking about life-planning — how are we going to go forward. I think that is where the real work is going to lie,” said Mallory.
Sarsour told Martin the next steps following this weekend’s rally involves “economic withdrawal, using our wealth and using our power.”
She continued, “I think uniting the people first to go back into the communities, talking to the young people, showing self-love so that we can then go out together as one. Black and Brown people, indigenous people just like we saw here today.”
Perez told Martin that activists can approach violence in our communities by both addressing police violence and inner-community violence, saying, “it’s not mutually exclusive, we can do both.”
