In the past year, over fifty women have come forward with allegations of sexual assault against Bill Cosby and the actor and comedian has been relatively quite. The 78-year-old did do a few bizarre interviews where he denied the allegations but one can assume he didn’t feel compelled to say too much as the statued of limitations had expired in every case.

Seven of his alleged victims have since filed defamation suits after he denied their accusations of sexual assault.

Now, in a strange turn of events, Cosby has filed a countersuit against the seven women alleging that their suit forfeited his business deals with Netflix and NBC.

Cosby’s suit says that the women filed “malicious, opportunistic, false and defamatory accusations of sexual misconduct against him…in an effort to cause damage to Mr. Cosby’s reputation and to extract financial gains.”

Prior to the massive backlash against Cosby, he was a preproduction for a new sitcom and a comedy special. Earlier this year, he was still touring with his comedy show until the hecklers from the crowd became too much for the 78-year-old to withstand.

“Each Counterclaim Defendant induced both NBC and Netflix to postpone or cancel their contracts with Mr. Cosby by engaging in a campaign to assassinate Mr. Cosby’s reputation and character” read the defamed comedian’s countersuit.

Joseph Cammarata along with Gloria Allred are the attorneys representing the seven women which include: Barbara Bowman, Tamara Green, Angela Leslie, Louisa Moritz, Therese Serignese, Joan Tarshis and Linda Traitz.

Next month, Cosby’s wife Camille will have to testify under oath in a deposition regarding her knowledge of the alleged assaults over the past fifty years. Cosby’s latest actions towards the women may be a last-ditch effort to protect his wife.

Cammarata says Cosby’s actions are “retaliatory.”

“You have a chorus of other women who have come out and made allegations against Mr. Cosby of sexual assault and abuse,” he said, “and yet he’s only seen fit to bring a claim against seven of the ladies”  added Cammarata.
