Today, New Orleans bounce legend Big Freedia appeared in court and plead guilty to charges of Section 8 fraud. Insiders say reality TV cameras were in tow to film the entire ordeal.

Freedia stepped into a Louisiana courtroom today decked out in a glittery black suit and purple hair to answer to charges that she allegedly stole $35,000 worth of government housing vouchers. U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite accused Freedia, whose real name is Freddie Ross Jr, of continuing to collect government housing assistance well after her career took off and her income had increased.

Freedia and her family lived in low-income subsidized housing for years before becoming an internationally recognized bounce music star. She says she knew little about how to manage her money post-fame. “It was an oversight — but one that I take full responsibility for,” she says in a statement. But the city isn’t buying it, saying Freedia knowingly underreported her income from approximately 2010-2014.

Reportedly, Freedia agreed to a plea deal which means she’ll pay restitution of approximately $34,800. There are currently no talks of potential jail time on the table, but that could change in June.

Don’t play with the government and their money, folks. Let this be a lesson to us all.
