Melissa McCarthy is not playing games with Hollywood! She’s the writer, producer and star of the hilarious new film, “The Boss”. She spoke exclusively to HB about what it takes to make a great movie and what she would tell her 25-year-old self about trusting her intuition.

“It’s definitely a tightrope to figure out how to make [a character] funny and how to stay on story. You have to watch someone fall down in order to watch them get back up” said Melissa about her new role as Michelle Darnell.

Conceptualized over 15 years earlier during her stint in the comedy troupe The Groundlings, Michelle is the 47th richest woman in the world. Her over the top, no nonsense personality will immediately remind you of Martha Stewart, Suze Orman and even Kanye West.

It doesn’t take long for Michelle to fall from grace due to insider trading. Following a stint in prison, she establishes a brownie business that rivals the Girl Scouts. Michelle starts off with good intentions but her greed gets the best of her. No spoilers but you’re definitely going to want to see how her character evolves.

At the youthful age of 45, Melissa is one of Hollywood’s “it” girls with her next film being the highly anticipated reboot of “Ghostbusters”. We asked the Emmy award winning wife and mother what advice would she give to her 25-year-old self?

She shared, “I would go back and tell her not to take any of it too seriously and to listen to that voice. The most powerful thing that women have, we get the red flag. We hear it, we know and we go ‘awe, I don’t want to make a fuss, I’m probably making it up.’ [Your intuition] is probably almost always right.”

“The Boss” directed by Ben Falcone also stars Kristen Bell, Peter Dinklage and Kathy Bates. Check out our full interview with Melissa and let us know your favorite scene from the film! (No spoilers but ours was the dance performance with T-Pain!)
