It’s time for you to get to know Nick Grant.

Sometimes you come across an artist who immediately blows you away, and Nick Grant is that guy. The introspective emcee emerged on our radar earlier this year when he released his debut mixtape ’88.

The 13-track tape featured heavyweights like Killer Mike, Big K.R.I.T., and Young Dro, but what piqued our interest was the knowledge that Nick is a product of the South, but a student of the North.

Possessing an ability to compose words equivalent to the greats before him, Nick’s been compared to hip-hop legend Nas (whom he credits as an early inspiration). He’s even been referred to as reminiscent of a more contemporary favorite, fellow Carolinian J. Cole. But with industry veteran Jason Geter on his team, the 27-year-old will undoubtedly create his own legacy with no mentions of the former or the latter.

We caught up with Nick in New York and chilled in the most peaceful place the city has to offer: Central Park.

During our interview, Nick took us back to the very beginning when he was just a young student of hip-hop growing up Walterboro, South Carolina. Nick also detailed the first time he met his idol Andre 3000 and the moment he was freestyling on Sway In The Morning with Jeezy standing right beside him.

Nick’s currently readying his major label debut, an EP scheduled to drop later on this year. In the meantime, check out our dope new interview with the South Carolina emcee.

Also, watch Nick’s freestyle dedicated to Black women below.
