Fox’s “American Idol” has “given back” millions of dollars.  MTV News is reeporting how much the show brought in last week.  I hope you gave because this money is going to a variety of charities.

The April 21st broadcast raised money for a variety of charities in the U.S. and across the globe including Malaria No More, the Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Save the Children’s U.S. Programs, and the United Nations Foundation.  This year’s “Idol Gives Back” was highlighted by performances from musicians like Joss Stone, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, the Black Eyed Peas, Carrie Underwood, and many more.  Several Hollywood stars like Morgan Freeman, Jonah Hill, Russell Brand, George Lopez and Wanda Sykes also stopped by to help encourage donations.

They raised over $45M last week, but that’s in no comparison than previous years.  “Idol Gives Back” raised more than 70-million dollars during its first campaign in 2007.  In 2008, the show generated 60-million dollars.  “Idol Gives Back” was not held in 2009 due to the economic recession.  People can still make donations by visiting AmericanIdol.com, or calling toll free 877-IDOL-AID.

Please America help in the efforts to give back.
