Something that has been on my mind: On Carb Day Friday, I played as a Hot Reverse Jam clue, the 1991 Hip Hop classic from DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince – Summertime. I knew it would of been the perfect song for that day. Had a few Facebook comments ask “Why did I use that song before the offical days of summer began”. It got me to think….

Living here for almost 6 years, I have found it very interesting that when Memorial/Indy 500 weekend arrives it always seems to be the “early kickoff” to the Summer. To me, it seemed to be the warmest part of May and always a perfect weather weekend. Just think, about 2 weeks ago, it was in the 40’s.

You can feel it in the air, walking around Downtown, seeing people’s dress in summer type clothing. If I had a chance to change the calender, I would make “Carb day” the official first day of Summer. You can see people’s attitude change and how much they have been waiting on the Sun to shine. Myself, I am a people watcher. You can tell Indianapolis looks forward to the summer months.

I used to take it for granted, in Texas the heat shows up in March. By Summertime, everyone is looking for shade from the 98+ degree tempuratures during the late part of July, August and September (once we were in the 90’s in November…I know right?!).

Everyone probably know my “take” on Winter weather, if you don’t…I dread it. Living here in Indianapolis just makes me appreciate the people and the city more during the warm months of the summer. During the cold days, I’m just thinking “how many days are left til next year’s carb day weekend” (lol)

So I am offically shouting out to Mayor “Playa” Greg Ballard to officially make Carb Day as Naptown’s First Day of Summer. What ya think?

God Bless Naptown Nation
