For years, New Orleans was the rap capital of Louisiana. Then along came rapper “Lil Boosie” who helped put his label – and Baton Rouge – on the map. He became a well known artist who was adored by his fans, especially youth in his native Baton Rouge. Trill ENT, Boosie’s embattled label, has had quite a few legal problems of its own. Many believe that law enforcement and the FBI held a grudge against the rapper and his label because of brazen lyrics contained within the songs they released.

In 2009, Torrance “Lil Boosie” Hatch was sentenced to 10 years in prison on gun and drug possession charges. He began serving that sentence at Dixon Correctional Institute (DCI) in Jackson, Louisiana.

On Thursday, Boosie was indicted on a first-degree murder charge. He was transported from DCI to Louisiana State Police headquarters and thereafter, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Boosie claimed his innocence as reporters asked him if he was involved in the murder for hire scheme of a Baton Rouge man. The rapper is accused of paying a man to kill 35-year old Terry Boyd, who was shot to death through a window while inside of his home at 16837 Vermillion Drive on October 21, 2009.

Boosie was also booked on 3 counts of possession with intent to distribute narcotics, 3 counts of conspiracy to commit possession with intent to distribute narcotics, and 2 counts of conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal institute (DCI).

On Friday, Boosie’s girlfriend, was indicted on drug and conspiracy charges. 25-year old Walnita Decuir turned herself in to be booked on those charges. Decuir, whose last known address was 1132 Pompey Drive in Baton Rouge, was accompanied by her attorney when she surrendered Friday afternoon and was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Decuir was indicted Thursday by a grand jury on the following:

Three of counts possession with intent to distribute narcotics such as codeine, ecstasy and marijuana.

• Three counts of conspiracy to commit possession with intent to distribute narcotics.

• Two counts of conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal institution.

Baton Rouge police spokesman Don Kelly was quoted as saying, “We want to stress, this is not over, not by a long shot.” Authorities have eluded that Boosie may be under investigation for a possible connection to at least 5 other murders in Baton Rouge, including the shooting death of Chris “Nussie” Jackson in February of 2009. Nussie was an up and coming rapper in the Baton Rouge area.

Indicted earlier this month on first-degree murder charges in Boyd’s killing were 17-year old Michael Louding, also known as “Marlo Mike”, and 36-year old Adrian Pittman. Some believe that the name “Marlo Mike” alludes to a character on the popular HBO original series, “The Wire”.
