It is Time to Take Responsibility

Indianapolis – We, the people, should commend IMPD for their quick response to the shootings downtown Saturday night and their ability to control the scene. “The sacrifices and expertise of the officers are worthy of our praise,” said former City-County Councilman Ron Gibson.

On the other hand, we should be outraged at the actions of those who fired the shots and started fighting in the crowds’ downtown, which put the lives of so many young people in danger. “Those who caused these senseless acts should be brought to justice with swiftness,” said Gibson.

The biggest question is: how could this have been prevented? “The city, its churches, and community organizations must provide more youth programs that foster character and morals in young people — especially for those who may have little to no parental guidance in their lives. We have to come up with more creative ways to inspire and encourage our youth to do what’s right and stop killing their dreams of becoming productive citizens. Education and security, especially as far as our children are concerned, will be of utmost importance. I look forward to investigation results which should be quick, fair, and lead to the arrests of all involved parties,” said Gibson.

Ron Gibson is a former City-County Councilman and Democratic candidate for Mayor in 2011.
