MTV’s 2010 Video Music Awards have proven to be a big success for the network.  According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” the show provided MTV with their biggest audience for any telecast since 2002.  The ceremony was watched by eleven-point-four-million viewers, which is a 29-percent increase from last year’s show.  This year’s broadcast also enjoyed a ten-point-zero rating among viewers aged 12 to 34, which is an increase of 33-percent from 2009.  The success of this year’s VMAs appears to be in spite of the performance of host Chelsea Handler, who has been widely panned.  The “New York Times” called her, quote, “purposefully out-of-touch,” while the “Washington Post” called Handler’s performance, quote, “a string of flat punch lines [that] felt a few degrees below crass.”

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards aired live from Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre last Sunday.  Pop superstar Lady Gaga was this year’s big winner, taking home eight moonmen awards including Video of the Year.
